Shampooing

Very hot water degrades the hair fiber and can cause premature or accelerated color fade.  Try
to use tepid water and you'll feel the difference within 60 days

Hair should be shampooed no more than 2 to 3 times a week.  Over cleansing of the hair is the
most damaging action performed on the hair by most people. By not allowing the scalps natural
conditioning oils (Sebum) to remain in the hair for an adequate length of time, daily
shampooing effectively negates this crucial step to healthy, lustrous hair. Your color will fade (a
lot) faster too.

Shampoo twice for effective results.  The first shampoo cleans surface grime and product
residue.  The second shampoo allows for the reconstructive, clarifying, or regenerative
properties of your particular shampoo to occur.

If daily shampooing is necessary, shampoo the scalp area only with a light finger scrubbing
motion.  I also recommend you use the most gentle shampoo you can.  Never use clarifying or
purifying shampoo on a daily basis.

Hair loss in the shower, or anywhere else, is a normal regenerative action performed by your
body.  Don't panic. Unless you see entire patches of hair coming out.  Then panic.

Conditioning

Lightly condition the mid shaft and ends of the hair.  Conditioning at the scalp is not always
necessary due to your body's production of Sebum, and can result in limp or lifeless hair.

When drying the hair,
squeeze out moisture rather than rubbing the hair with a towel (which
can cause splitting).

Detangle and prepare your hair for styling by using a very wide toothed comb with a leave in
conditioner, if desired.

Apply your Gel or Mousse sparingly, and in the direction that the hair will lay for the completed
style.  Many people think that not using or minimal use of hair styling products leaves the hair
in better overall condition.  This is true in many cases.

Styling

Heat is damaging to the hair.  Limit your use of blow drying, curling irons, and flat irons as
much as possible.  When these methods are performed correctly, they need not be repeated
on a daily basis.

Getting a shampoo/blow dry once or twice a week by a competent professional allows you
extra time every morning, ensures a more consistent and polished appearance, & limits
damage caused by styling..

Before going to bed, (gently) brush hair thoroughly with a natural bristle brush. A boar bristle
brush is one such example.

When styling curly hair, scrunch product into the hair and diffuse with a blow dryer.  Running
your hands through curly hair makes it big and frizzy.  You should avoid this.

Color Care

Do not shampoo for 24 hours prior to or following a chemical service.  By not shampooing
before a color, your hairs natural oils build up on the hair, allowing easier, deeper color
penetration and greater adherence of the color molecule to the hair fiber, resulting in better
color retention.

Use the best shampoo & conditioner for chemically treated hair you can acquire, and use them
exactly as the instructions dictate.  A deep penetrating, non-protein based conditioner can be
used as an overnight treatment once per week.  Limit your use of protein based products as
they can play havoc with haircolor, resulting in all kinds of nasty scenarios.
